Oklahoma's official opponent history lists four meetings with LSU from the 2003 season through 2025. LSU won the first three before Oklahoma earned its first victory in the series in Norman in 2025.
2003 season: LSU 21, Oklahoma 14 — BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans.
2019 season: LSU 63, Oklahoma 28 — College Football Playoff semifinal in Atlanta.
2024: LSU 37, Oklahoma 17 — Tiger Stadium, Oklahoma's first season in the SEC.
2025: Oklahoma 17, LSU 13 — Norman, Oklahoma's first win over LSU in the modern series.
2003: LSU beats Oklahoma for the national championship
The first meeting of the modern series came on the biggest possible stage. LSU defeated Oklahoma 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl to claim the BCS national championship for the 2003 season. That victory remains one of the defining games of LSU's modern rise and helped establish the program as a national power in the 21st century.
2019: Joe Burrow and LSU overwhelm Oklahoma
Sixteen years later, the programs met again with a championship at stake. LSU's historic 2019 offense defeated Oklahoma 63-28 in the Peach Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal. The Tigers then beat Clemson for the national championship, completing a 15-0 season that remains one of the most dominant campaigns in college football history.
2024 and 2025 turned LSU-Oklahoma into an SEC matchup
Oklahoma's entrance into the SEC changed the nature of the series. In 2024, LSU beat the Sooners 37-17 in Baton Rouge. The following season, Oklahoma answered with a 17-13 win in Norman. Those games gave the schools consecutive regular-season meetings for the first time and added conference consequences to a matchup previously defined by the postseason.
The 2026 LSU schedule does not include Oklahoma, so this is not yet an annual rivalry. But the SEC's expanded format means LSU and Oklahoma are now conference peers, making future meetings far more likely than they were for most of college football history.
Is LSU-Oklahoma a rivalry?
Not in the traditional sense — at least not yet. Four modern meetings are not enough to create the history LSU shares with longtime opponents. But there is already meaningful football history between the programs: two championship-era postseason games, two SEC regular-season meetings and a split in the first home-and-home conference sequence.
