LSU vs. Ole Miss Football History: Series Record, Rivalry & Classic Games

LSU and Ole Miss own one of the SEC’s oldest and most recognizable football rivalries, a series shaped by geography, conference history, memorable finishes and generations of fans who know the matchup carries more weight than a normal Saturday.

LSU vs. Ole Miss all-time series record

LSU led the series 66-43-4 through the 2024 season. Ole Miss won 24-19 in Oxford in 2025, moving the record to 66-44-4 in LSU’s favor entering the 2026 meeting.

Why it is called the Magnolia Bowl

The rivalry is commonly known as the Magnolia Bowl, reflecting the magnolia as the state flower of both Louisiana and Mississippi. The trophy era is relatively recent compared with the age of the series, but the rivalry itself stretches back more than a century.

Games that shaped the rivalry

  • Billy Cannon’s famous Halloween Night punt return in 1959 became one of the defining plays in LSU football history.

  • The schools have repeatedly met with SEC title and national relevance hanging over the result.

  • LSU’s 29-26 overtime win in Tiger Stadium in 2024 added another dramatic chapter before Ole Miss answered with a 24-19 win in 2025.

The modern SEC chapter

Conference expansion and changing schedules have altered many traditional SEC rivalries, but LSU-Ole Miss continues to feel regional and personal. The 2026 meeting in Oxford is especially notable because it is LSU’s first SEC road game of the Lane Kiffin era.
