Dashawn Spears Injury: Who Should Replace Him in LSU’s Secondary?
Starting LSU safety/STAR Dashawn Spears reportedly suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Ole Miss. CJ Jimcoily replaced him after he left the game, and LSU’s current depth-chart picture also includes Jhase Thomas among the options as the Tigers figure out the new rotation. Lane Kiffin called Spears an integral and unusually versatile part of LSU’s defense.
TigerHype take: Losing Spears may be more difficult to solve schematically than simply putting the next name on the depth chart. His ability to play multiple roles helped LSU disguise coverages and packages.
If you’re Blake Baker, who gets the first shot at replacing Spears — CJ Jimcoily, Jhase Thomas, or a rotation? And do you simplify the defense or keep asking the replacement to handle Spears’ full role?
