Corey Barber Jr. vs. Kentucky: Did LSU Find Another Starting-Caliber Receiver?

Corey Barber Jr. caught all seven of his targets for 83 yards and two touchdowns against McNeese. He led LSU in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, and both scores came before halftime while Sam Leavitt was still directing the primary offense.

TigerHype Staff take: One huge night against McNeese shouldn't automatically rewrite the receiver depth chart. But seven catches on seven targets — including two red-zone touchdowns — is exactly how a young receiver forces the coaching staff to give him another look. Kentucky is where we find out whether Barber's role was a one-game opportunity or the beginning of something.

How many targets should Corey Barber get at Kentucky? Has he earned a real place in the weekly rotation, or do you need to see him do it against SEC coverage first?

Lane Kiffin Is 8-for-10 on Fourth Down: How Aggressive Should LSU Be at Kentucky?

LSU has converted 8 of 10 fourth-down attempts through five games — an 80% success rate. LSU's opponents are only 1-for-4 on fourth down. The Tigers are also converting 52% of their third downs, which means Kiffin frequently reaches fourth down with manageable distance rather than desperation situations.

TigerHype Staff take: This could become a huge part of Saturday night's game. Road possessions are valuable, and Kentucky just showed against South Carolina that it won't necessarily go away if LSU jumps ahead. Kiffin's willingness to keep drives alive instead of automatically punting could either silence Kroger Field — or hand Kentucky the exact momentum swing it wants.

Where should Kiffin's fourth-down line be Saturday: only inside Kentucky territory, anywhere past midfield, or should he stay aggressive even on LSU's side of the 50 in fourth-and-short?

Harlem Berry, Dilin Jones or Stacy Gage: Who Should Get LSU’s First Carries at Kentucky?

LSU rushed for 367 yards and six touchdowns against McNeese. Harlem Berry had a career-high 125 yards on 15 carries, Stacy Gage exploded for 110 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and Dilin Jones added 79 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts. Berry has now followed his efficient Texas A&M performance with his first career 100-yard game.

TigerHype Staff take: McNeese gave LSU enough possessions to feed everybody. Kentucky probably won't. That's what makes this interesting: Lane Kiffin may have to decide who gets the ball when there are only 20–25 meaningful running-back carries available.

You're calling LSU's first series at Kentucky. Who gets the first meaningful carry — Harlem Berry, Dilin Jones or Stacy Gage? And who should finish with the most touches?

Sam Leavitt vs. Kentucky: Should LSU Keep Its QB in the Pocket?

Sam Leavitt completed 18 of 23 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns against McNeese, but he recorded zero rushing attempts. Lane Kiffin said afterward that Leavitt did very little in practice early last week because of the hamstring injury and that LSU was still limited in what it could call Saturday. Kiffin also said Leavitt was significantly better than he had been the previous week.

TigerHype Staff take: LSU obviously wants a healthy Leavitt capable of hurting defenses with his legs. But there is an interesting question here: the injury has forced him to play more from the pocket, and LSU's offense has looked increasingly efficient. Kentucky also struggled containing quarterback movement against South Carolina, which makes the temptation to unleash Leavitt again even greater.

If Leavitt is 90–95% Saturday, do you bring the designed QB run game back against Kentucky — or keep protecting him and make Kentucky beat…

LSU vs. Kentucky 2026: Is Lexington More Dangerous Than the Rankings Suggest?

LSU moved back to No. 10 in the AP Top 25 after beating McNeese 63-14 and improving to 4-1. Kentucky is also 4-1 and 2-1 in SEC play, but narrowly missed the AP Top 25. The Wildcats have won three straight, including road wins over Texas A&M and South Carolina. On Saturday, Kentucky erased a 17-0 deficit and beat South Carolina 35-34 in overtime behind 272 passing yards and three touchdowns from Kenny Minchey.

TigerHype Staff take: The ranking beside Kentucky's name may undersell this matchup. This is a team that has already won two SEC road games and just proved it can survive a terrible start without folding. LSU should be the more talented roster, but Lexington feels like the first game since Ole Miss where a few sloppy possessions could completely change the night.

How worried are you about Kentucky: legitimate upset threat, uncomfortable road game LSU eventually controls, or a…

LSU vs. McNeese Predictions: Score + One Tiger Who Earns a Bigger Role

No. 11 LSU is 3-1 and hosts 2-3 McNeese tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network. LSU is 2-0 in official meetings with McNeese; the scheduled 2015 game was abandoned after a long lightning delay and ruled a no contest. LSU is also 20-0 against FCS opponents since the Division I split. Tiger Rag

TigerHype Staff take: I’m more interested in the second half than the first. If LSU gets control early, this should become an audition for players like Harlem Berry, Tylen Singleton, Faheem Delane, Roman Mothershed, Lamar Brown, Richard Anderson and Corey Barber Jr. Tiger Rag

Give us two picks: your final score AND the LSU reserve/young player who leaves Saturday with a bigger role than he had entering it.

Easton Royal and LSU: How Important Is Flipping the Five-Star Louisiana WR?

Fresh recruiting reporting this week says LSU continues to push for New Orleans five-star wide receiver Easton Royal as the 2027 Early Signing Period approaches. LSU currently has a top-10 2027 class, and both 247Sports and On3 continue to describe Royal as a major flip target while he evaluates LSU, Texas and Florida. There has not been a confirmed commitment change, so this remains a recruitment rather than a done deal. 247Sports

TigerHype Staff take: This one feels bigger than simply adding another highly ranked receiver because Royal is an elite Louisiana prospect. Keeping that caliber of offensive talent home has always carried extra weight at LSU.

How important is Easton Royal to this class: centerpiece recruit, luxury addition, or somewhere in between? And if LSU only lands one more elite skill player, would you prioritize WR or RB?

McNeese’s Run Game vs. LSU’s Defense: Can Anyone Run on the Tigers?

McNeese is averaging 189.4 rushing yards per game and 5.8 yards per carry, while running back Omiri Wiggins has 375 yards at 6.7 yards per carry. LSU, meanwhile, has allowed only 190 rushing yards through four games — 47.5 per game and 1.65 per carry. LSU held Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed to minus-13 rushing yards last week. Tiger Rag

TigerHype Staff take: McNeese probably isn’t going to threaten LSU in many areas, but this is legitimately strength against strength. If LSU dominates the Cowboys’ rushing attack while rotating younger linebackers and defensive linemen, that may tell us more about the depth of Blake Baker’s defense than the final score does.

Set the number: how many rushing yards would McNeese have to gain Saturday before you’d actually be concerned about LSU’s defense? 75? 100? 125?
